What is my computer's service tag?

Dell computers with Windows installed can be uniquely identified on our network by a seven-digit code referred to as a service tag. Knowing the service tag of a computer allows us to quickly and easily map printers, deploy software, and provide remote assistance to campus computers.

If we do not currently have your computer’s service tag on record we may request that you locate it for us so that we can more easily assist you. You can find your computer’s service tag in Windows using the following directions:

Windows 10

Right-click the Start menu button and select System. A new window should open, your computer’s service tag will be listed under Computer name:

Windows 7

From the Start menu right-click on Computer then select Properties. A new window should open, your computer’s service tag will be listed under Computer name:
